Recruiting Students in their Final Year

gracon.jpg Meeting with our staff is by far the best way to maximize your visibility on campus. We help recruiters develop efficient and competitive recruiting strategies. The recruiting season starts in September, peaks in late October, and ends in March. The earlier you recruit in the season, the bigger the pool of graduating students.

Many campus recruiters conduct information sessions to better inform students of their organizational culture, recruiting practices and current entry-level openings. When possible, Concordia alumni who were hired in the last couple of years will talk about their experience entering that organization as a fresh graduate. These sessions are usually held before the deadline date for applications.

A typical recruiting campaign may include all or some of the following steps:

  • Recruiters often start their campaign by participating in one of the Career Fairs that usually take place in September or in late January.
  • In late September and October, campus interviews and corporate information sessions begin. Many companies conduct information sessions on campus before the posting deadline in order to meet students, answer questions, and provide them with useful information. These sessions may include food and beverages and audio-visual equipment. We will arrange all of the details and bill you later if there are any expenses.
  • Some recruiters organize a company visit where students can actually get to shake hands with employers and get a feel of the working environment.
  • If recruiters wish to conduct interviews on campus, the first step is to determine a date and book a room with us by phone.
  • The next step is to determine the deadline date by which recruiters wish to receive student applications. We recommend a three-week posting period in order to give students enough time to respond.
  • You will need to up-date the Career section of your Web site so that students can read about your organization and available positions.
  • By sending us any kind of promotional materials such as posters, brochures, freebees etc., you increase your visibility on-campus.
  • Application packages usually requested by recruiters may include one or more of the following items: a copy of student transcripts, a resumé, a cover letter.
  • We collect applications and send them out by courier. Many employers prefer that students apply on-line.
  • The list of selected candidates for interviews is sent to us at least one week before the scheduled interview date.
  • Second interviews are usually conducted within the company.
  • Finally comes the moment of the offer. Some students will refuse because they choose to work elsewhere. We always greatly appreciate being informed of how well our students performed and which ones were hired.
